Graphic Novel
To A Passerby
concept
This illustration book translates and visualizes Baudelaire's poem To a Passerby. Via printing on mylar, I intend to make the poem's depiction of the permeable shock from modern life experienceable through the tangibility of the book.
The spreads are aligned using the red line sewing, which symbolizes a permanent relationship in the Chinese context, showing the project's attempt to extract eternality and linkage from the ephemeral shock expressed in the poem.

Text layout inspired by David Carson's designs that goes beyond the traditional grids graphic designers would use. The layering of texts aims to convey Baudelaire's depiction of the overflowing information and the following shock caused by such condition in modern society.
