The Reciprocal Theatre
concept
time as bifurcating paths
“The Reciprocal Theatre” centers on a study of the relationship between the body, space and time. The story ends with a beginning, while the beginning starts from the end. Throughout the protagonist's journey following the trace of a crow, a labyrinth of time reveals itself where all trajectories bifurcate with each other, extracting the eternal from the ephemeral.
I am envisioning the work will be separated into 4 plays which are projected to the 4 walls of a room simultaneously. Headphones will be provided next to each projection for the audience to have a more immersive experience with audios. Both animations and audios are made on my own.
ideation
analog and digital draft
I started with experiments with both analog and digital design methods to visualize the stage I have in mind. I played with paper models to better understand the scale and spatial setting. Then I did some simple storyboards to further iterate on the structure and narrative arc.
